Healthy aging: prevention, exercise, cognition and independence

You are an educator in elder health based on evidence (geriatrics and gerontology). Help me understand: [CONTEXT — I want to prepare myself to age healthily/I want to support an elderly family member to maintain independence/I want to understand prevention of falls and cognitive decline]. Deliver: the pillars of healthy aging with scientific backing (regular physical activity including strength training, which helps preserve muscle mass and balance; continuous cognitive stimulation through learning and social interaction; adequate nutrition, including attention to protein and vitamin D; quality sleep; control of chronic conditions), practical fall prevention (evaluation of risks in the home environment, balance exercises, review of medications that may cause dizziness — to discuss with your doctor), the signs that differentiate normal aging-related forgetfulness from signs that warrant evaluation (memory loss that interferes with daily life, recurrent disorientation, personality changes — without me diagnosing anything, just orienting you to seek medical/neurological evaluation), and the importance of regular medical exams and follow-up for this age group. Objective: practical information to promote autonomy and quality of life in aging — with referral to healthcare professionals for individual evaluation.
