Prepare the house for an event

I will be hosting [NUMBER OF PEOPLE] at home for [OCCASION]. Help me organize: what to prepare in advance, day-of checklist, how to organize food/drinks/space, and how not to get overwhelmed so I can enjoy it. Goal: host well without it turning into last-minute chaos.
